New Year, what is it?

New Year is a universal celebration marking the transition to a new year. It's a night of festivities, resolutions, and promises, where everyone wishes to start the year off on the right foot.

Traditionally associated with lavish parties and champagne toasts, New Year's Eve can be just as memorable and sophisticated without a drop of alcohol. With elegant mocktails and festive drinks, it's possible to toast to the new year without alcohol. This year, rediscover the art of celebrating with alcohol-free alternatives, for a New Year's Eve that's just as sparkling and refined.

A little history

The celebration of the New Year goes back thousands of years, with roots in various cultures around the world. The Babylonians were among the first to celebrate the new year, around 4,000 years BC, but their celebration took place at the spring equinox, a time suitable for sowing seeds and making new promises. It was in ancient Rome, under Julius Caesar, that January 1st was designated as the start of the year, in honour of Janus, the god of beginnings and endings. With his two faces, Janus looked both to the past and the future, a symbol of the transition from one year to the next.

Over the centuries, New Year's has become a global celebration, marked by local traditions, from fireworks in China to the ball drop in Times Square. In France, New Year's Eve often means lavish feasts, music, and dancing, with champagne flowing freely at midnight to welcome the new year.

In recent years, however, there's been a trend toward alcohol-free celebrations, with growing interest in non-alcoholic alternatives. Toasting with fancy mocktails allows people to fully enjoy the magic of the moment and step into the new year with clarity and determination.
